Social Responsibility in Education
The Company fosters an interest in learning, a culture of literacy, and encourages improved educational performance in its operational areas, both within the plantations and surrounding villages. The primary target groups for these activities are school-age children, teachers, adolescents, young people, parents, community leaders, and schools.
Collaborative support for improving educational performance has been provided, including with Sanata Dharma University (USD) Yogyakarta, by continuing to provide technical assistance for the development of learning houses integrated with elementary school Olympiad activities in Muara Wahau District.
Every year, the Company holds an Elementary School Olympiad involving elementary schools, both within the plantations and in surrounding villages. The Olympiad activities involve teachers, schools, and the community. Activities are held on a rotating basis at elementary schools, both within and outside the plantations or in villages surrounding the Company’s operational areas. The Company’s ongoing support for out-of-school educational activities is carried out in collaboration with communities in villages surrounding its operational areas. These include learning houses (RB), Quranic education parks (TPA), Sunday schools, environmental education, strengthening cultural values, providing free meals for students, and providing occupational safety and health (K3) training for vocational students. These efforts demonstrate DSNG’s commitment to improving access to and quality of education for communities surrounding its operational areas.
RB continues to be developed in villages surrounding its operational areas, including in East Kutai Regency, Bulungan Regency, Sintang Regency, and Sekadau Regency. The Company also provides alternative education services for children of the Punan Dayak Tribe in Longsep Hamlet, Miau Baru Village, Kong Beng District, and Wonomulyo Village, East Tanjung Palas District, Bulungan Regency.
Other forms of support for education include scholarships, school transportation, incentives for honorary teachers at several elementary schools, and comparative studies with literacy organizations, including Mata Aksara in Sleman Regency and the Sanggar Anak Alam Reading Garden in Bantul Regency.
