The Company acknowledges the existence of indigenous peoples in and around its operational areas, and implements the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) protocol, Cultural Heritage and Indigenous People Protection. We are committed to the principle that indigenous peoples have the right to be acknowledged and to give or withhold their consent to actions that may affect their traditional livelihoods, lands, territories, and natural resources. The Company also acknowledges the existence of a cultural heritage that is located within the operational area that is sacred by the indigenous groups. We expect our suppliers to also apply these commitments and principles wherever they can, as Indonesia is also a signatory to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

As a form of protecting the rights of indigenous peoples in and around operational areas, as well as to safeguard local cultural heritage, the Company collaborated with academic consultants Dr. Adi Prasetijo, with his team of anthropologists and archaeologists, has developed guidelines for indigenous people’s development and the cultural heritage assessment and preservation based on participatory studies and consultations with the community, traditional leaders, and representatives of traditional institutions in Block Muara Wahau, Karangan, and Bengalon.

Through these guidelines, the Company actively participates in the preservation of local cultural heritage and values, as well as strengthens the ability of the local indigenous peoples to improve their livelihoods and welfare. The guidelines have been reviewed in &Green annual auditing process in 2021.

DSN Group routinely supports local cultural traditions events, such as the harvest party (Lomplai, Bob Jengea Erau Festival) and the tolak bala (ward of misfortune) ceremony by the Dayak Tribe. The Company also provides opportunities for employees and the local community to carry out their traditions in and around the operational area.
