Social Responsibility in Employee and Community Health and Safety

We look at the aspects of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), as well as aspects of Community Health and Safety as a top priority in carrying out business activities. Our goal is to protect all employees and the community around the operational area of ​​DSN Group.

SHE aspects are always identified, monitored, and controlled in an integrated manner in the OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Safety and Health Management System which is based on efforts to control risks. The company targets to reduce the number of work accidents by 20% per year.

Since 2021, the Company has conducted a trial run for portable toilets (PorTo) to support workers in palm oil plantations, especially for women workers. The PorTo ameliorate workers to access and improve the security during defecation/urinating, as well as mitigating the risk of sexual harassment. The PorTo units also improve the workers and the surrounding communities’ health by avoiding open defecation/urinating behavior. From the PorTo trial run and studies on employees’ perceptions, and the study of adequacy and distribution of toilets in the plantation area by the Faculty of Public Health University of Indonesia team, the Company through the Agro Sub-Business Unit, is building permanent toilets in designated locations in the plantation area.

Regarding the aspects of Community Health and Safety, the Company involves the community in the affected areas in a participatory manner through the CSR Function. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we held a vaccination program designated for all employees and their families, and for members of partner cooperatives. DSNG also provides health facilities: main clinic, estate clinic, and polyclinic that can be accessed by every employee and their family as well as the community around the operational area. DSNG also provides children day-care (TPA) as an implementation of the Child Protection Policy. Not only functions as a place for childcare while their parents work, the TPA facility is also provides early childhood education as well as a centre for children’s health, growth, and development monitoring, as well as nutritional needs consultation. The TPA operates in accordance with the national standard operating procedures (SOPs).
