Sustainable Improvement: Quality Preserved, Innovation Created
My name is Abdul Malik Firmansyah, and I work in the Operation Technology department at PT Dharma Satya Nusantara (DSN), specifically in the Productivity & System Improvement division. Since joining in May 2018, I have been responsible for ensuring that the systems and machines in the Palm Oil Mill (PKS) run optimally by conducting regular monitoring and evaluation. The position focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, creating innovations that support smooth operations, and ensuring that operational activities adhere to standard operating procedures and safety standards.
As part of the Productivity & System Improvement department, the work is dynamic and follows evolving management targets. To support this role, I actively participate in various continuous improvement initiatives, reflecting my commitment to driving efficiency and innovation in the workplace.
In 2025, I had the opportunity to develop my skills in the field of improvement by attending a Training of Trainers (ToT) program, which strengthened my ability to implement continuous improvement and share knowledge with the team to achieve continuous performance improvement.
Carrying out daily tasks and responsibilities is not without its challenges. One of the most stressful moments occurred when I had to quickly prepare data at my superiors’ request, even though the PKS team had not updated the data. I had to contact the PIC or Mill Head from PKS1 to PKS12 immediately to update the data. However, the struggle didn’t stop there. The collected data must be processed immediately into informative visuals with conclusions so that superiors can quickly understand and make decisions. It was a great challenge, but I learned the importance of staying alert, being collaborative, and staying calm under pressure.

Every maintenance action involves more than just repairing damage; it also involves exploring root causes and designing long-term, sustainable solutions. In the spirit of cross-functional collaboration, we are ready to support the company in achieving its productivity and efficiency targets.
As we move forward, we hope to strengthen an adaptive, data-driven, continuous improvement-oriented work system to create increasingly resilient and competitive operations.
