Realizing Energy Independence: From Dream to Reality
By Weelfrine – BioCNG Dept. Head
Energy is crucial for the success of a company’s production line. Operational sustainability and growth depend on energy independence.
My name is Weelfrin Gurning, and I work for the company under the initials WGU. I joined DSNG in June 2019 and am currently the Department Head of the BioCNG Plant, one of DSNG’s business units engaged in renewable energy. I joined DSNG when the construction project for the first BioCNG plant was underway. BioCNG is important because it is the first of its kind for DSNG and in Indonesia.
DSNG’s decision to build the BioCNG plant is setting a new precedent in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector, paving the way for a transition from fossil fuels to green energy. The BioCNG plant has proven to be an effective alternative energy solution for DSNG’s operations.

Adjusting to the BioCNG plant system was difficult, considering the technology is still limited in Asia, especially in Indonesia. However, DSNG trusted me and allowed me to learn and develop my skills, as well as understand the operation and maintenance of the engine unit and the operational challenges of the BioCNG plant.
Initially, I had no experience with BioCNG; my previous experience was limited to biogas plants at other companies. BioCNG is a derivative of biogas with a much higher calorific value and high safety standards. A new work area and system present challenges in terms of operations and maintenance.
The warm work culture, solid team, and supportive coworkers are what I really appreciate about DSNG. Thanks to solid teamwork, we can overcome challenges well. DSNG continues to provide excellent career opportunities for those of us who are passionate about our work and love challenges.
Thanks to our strong team and accurate data, DSNG continues to grow into a world-class company every year. My biggest hope is that DSNG will achieve energy independence by 2030, becoming not only internally independent but also a company that contributes to the sale of renewable energy for a better Indonesia.
